{"id":12397,"date":"2018-12-02T04:34:39","date_gmt":"2018-12-02T04:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/?p=12397"},"modified":"2018-12-04T22:55:04","modified_gmt":"2018-12-04T22:55:04","slug":"focus-on-the-85th-anniversary-of-ukraines-holodomor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/en\/focus-on-the-85th-anniversary-of-ukraines-holodomor\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus on the 85th Anniversary of Ukraine\u2019s Holodomor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12401\" src=\"http:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"705\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C.jpg 705w, https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C-500x315.jpg 500w, https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C-700x440.jpg 700w, https:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/media\/Clyman_3_C-350x220.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The documentary film <em>Hunger for Truth<\/em> tells the story of Canadian-Jewish journalist <a href=\"http:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/en\/new-chapters-ukrainian-jewish-relationship-explored-canadas-limmud-fsu-part-1-rhea-clyman\/\">Rhea Clyman<\/a>.\u00a0 Although little known today, Clyman reached international acclaim in her day for her coverage of the Soviet Union, including the 1932-33 man-made Ukrainian famine known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/ukrainianjewishencounter.org\/en\/category\/history\/holodomor\/\">Holodomor<\/a>, and the rise of Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n<p>In honor of the 85<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Holodomor, on 26 November 2018 <em>Hunger for Truth<\/em> made its English-language debut in Ukraine. Andrew Tkach, the film\u2019s awarding-winning director, was on-hand at the showing, which was supported by the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine, The Fulbright Progam in Ukraine, the Kyiv Post and the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Tkach was joined at London\u2019s Ukrainian Institute by Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Anne Applebaum, author of <em>Red Famine: Stalin's War on Ukraine<\/em>, to discuss the film.
