By chance, the books shortlisted for the 2023 'Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize' ™ were related to World War II. What does this indicate about how Ukrainians see their past and relationship with the Jewish community, particularly during Russia's criminal war against Ukraine? Jury head Olha Mukha, jury member Oksana Forostyna, and members of the technical jury Mariana Maksymiak and Zaven Babloyan discussed the books submitted for this year's prize, their principal themes, and how they relate to contemporary Ukrainian-Jewish relations.<\/p>\n

After the event, Dr. Yehor Vradii, Assistant Director of the Tkuma Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and a veteran of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commented on the importance of the novel Amadoka<\/em> by Sofia Andrukhovych, winner of the 2023 'Encounter' prize.<\/p>\n

The event was held on 6 October 2023 in cooperation with the \"Territory of Terror\" museum, the NGO \"Publisher's Forum\" and the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter.<\/p>\n
