Language Pearls of Yiddish Culture
On April 25-28, an educational seminar "Language Pearls of Yiddish Culture" will be held at the Ostroh Academy, organized by the Center for Jewish Studies at the National University "Ostroh Academy", the World Jewish Congress, and the International Center for Yiddish Language and Culture. The program of the seminar features 12 lectures by three leading experts in Yiddish studies, including in the Ukrainian context:
- Wolf Moskovich—Professor and Head of the Department of Slavic Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1976-2004), today professor emeritus; polymath with a broad area of expertise, including the history and culture of Jews in Central and Eastern Europe, the Yiddish language, Slavic studies and Ukrainian studies in particular as well as Ukrainian-Jewish cultural contacts.
- Mordechai Yushkovsky—Doctor of Philology, initiator and head of Yiddish studies programs in Israel and globally.
- Tetyana Batanova—MA in history, lecturer and researcher of Jewish culture, Yiddish and Ukrainian-Jewish relations.
The seminar also engages Israeli singer Marina Yakubovich, a well-known Yiddish songs performer.
