Meridian Czernowitz 2024
Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE) is a long-standing sponsor of the Meridian Czernowitz International Poetry Festival in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, which will take place on 6–8 September 2024.
This year's program will include discussions dedicated to the Ukrainian-Jewish literary dialogue, disinformation and Russia's war against Ukraine. Petro Rykhlo, a finalist for the 2024 "Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize," will discuss the poetry and fate of Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger; award-winning journalist and academic Peter Pomerantsev will address disinformation; and Soviet dissident Josef Zissels, head of VAAD (the Association of Jewish Organizations and Communities of Ukraine), will talk about Russia's war against Ukraine, now in its 11th year.
Individual events in UJE's program are listed below. Meridian Czernowitz's full program is available in Ukrainian here. This year's festival will be held in person, and some events will be broadcast on Meridian Czernowitz's official Facebook page and YouTube channel.
