The Edmonton Jewish community is invited to attend a very special exhibit organized by the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE) entitled A Journey through the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter: From Antiquity to 1914.  The travelling community exhibition, created by the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter and co-funded by the Government of Canada, will open in Edmonton on Tuesday August 4 and runs until August 18 at St. John’s Institute 11024 – 82 Avenue in Edmonton.

The Jewish presence in Ukraine dates back 2,000 years. A traveling exhibit highlighting and exploring the relationship between the two communities – “A Journey Through the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter from Antiquity to 1914” – was recently mounted by the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter (UJE), which since 2008 has been studying and supporting this encounter.

President Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with Member of the Advisory Council of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, philanthropist James Temerty and delegation of the U.S. Atlantic Council headed by former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Director of the Center for European Studies John Herbst.

The exhibit A Journey Through the Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter: From Antiquity to 1914 opened last month in Toronto. It has since been held in Winnipeg (until June 27), will return to Toronto in July and then head to other cities.
