Ukrainian rabbi calls on US president to "fight in the name of light"

A new song by Kyiv rabbi Moshe Azman sounds like a direct call for US President Donald Trump to take the side of Ukraine and fight against the Forces of Darkness.

The song "Donald Trump, it's time to fight!" performed by the prominent Jewish spiritual leader of Ukraine, received almost 12,000 views just a day after its appearance on YouTube. As noted in the description of the video clip, this song is "a call to US President Donald Trump to help Ukraine achieve a just and lasting peace."

The Ukrainian rabbi's appeal to Donald Trump begins with a tragic place in Kyiv, where a Russian missile hit a residential building on 24 April 2025. "Donald Trump, it's time to fight for the light!" sings Azman against the backdrop of footage from a destroyed courtyard in Kyiv.

Azman notes that Russia continues missile attacks and does not seek peace, but only wants more victims and blood.

In the words of the song: "They always lie. The throne of the tsar rests on fear and hatred," the clip shows the faces of Putin, Kim Jong-il and Ayatollah Khamenei — the dictators of Russia, North Korea, and Iran.

The video clip of the song features touching footage of Ukrainian civilians suffering from the war, as well as footage of Russian missile strikes on the center of Kharkiv. No one can be left indifferent by the video sequence of the song with the tears of mothers and the screams of children — everything that Ukrainians have been facing for the fourth year during the terrible attacks of a cruel enemy.

The video also contains footage where the American president promises to stop the war in Ukraine during his election campaign.

"We pray for peace, here in a rain of missiles. The key is in your hands, you write this page. And may God bless you to bring peace and light," the rabbi sings, addressing the US president.

Donald Trump, according to the songwriter, can destroy the "Evil Empire", referring to the Russian enemy. It is interesting to note that the use of the term "Evil Empire" in the song is intended to remind the current US president of the great merits of his illustrious predecessor Ronald Reagan, also a Republican president, who declared the Soviet Union an "Evil Empire" in the early 1980s and made efforts to bring it down.

The refrain of the song were the key words: "Donald Trump, it's time to fight!"

The song was released at a very timely time — during the most critical period of the efforts of the new US president's team to end Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

In the lyrics of the song and in the video sequence, there is an exact "hit" into the worldview of the core of Christian voters of the Republican Party of the United States. The idea of a "Battle of the Forces of the World against the Forces of Darkness" corresponds to the picture of the world and the mood of President Trump personally.

In my opinion, the messages of this song by the Kyiv rabbi are more focused not even on Jews and Ukrainians, but on an audience of tens of millions of evangelical Christians in the United States.

The author of the lyrics and music for the song is Mirjam Hasina from Kyiv, a graduate of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv who holds a master’s degree in law.

The thirty-three-year-old also writes songs in Ukrainian and Hebrew. At the beginning of 2025, Miriam translated the Easter Haggadah into Ukrainian — this brochure was published by the Central Synagogue of Brodsky in Ukraine’s capital.

Hasina is the daughter of the only military chaplain of the Jewish religion in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, David Milman, who spiritually takes care of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the war. In the video clip of the song by Rabbi Azman, there is a fragment in which David Milman participates in the funeral of a deceased Jewish soldier of the Ukrainian army.

The song generated hundreds of enthusiastic comments. Ulyana from Ukraine writes: "We are talking about a precise and very timely written text. It is at this moment that such an appeal is a strong message. Musical diplomacy of a high level of content, a modern song and very appropriate." Other commentators hope, "May God send this video and song into Trump's heart!"

In the spring of 2025, Rabbi Azman was awarded the Order "For Courage" of his adopted son Matityahu (Anton) Samborsky, who was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine and died in battles with the Russian army.

In April 2025, at the invitation of Rabbi Moshe Azman, Pastor Mark Burns, personal spiritual adviser to US President Donald Trump, came to Ukraine, visited Bucha, Irpin, and Borodyanka, where Russian atrocities took place, and saw with his own eyes how Ukraine lives in the conditions of a devastating war.
