Video: Public interview and conversation with Peter Pomerantsev at Meridian Czernowitz 2024

Ukrainian Jewish Encounter (UJE) is a long-standing sponsor of the Meridian Czernowitz International Poetry Festival in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, which took place on 6–8 September 2024. This year's program included discussions on the Ukrainian-Jewish literary dialogue, disinformation and Russia's war against Ukraine.

In his public interview held on 7 September, Peter Pomerantsev, a leading expert on disinformation and propaganda, outlined the significant challenges facing Ukraine and the democratic world in the face of Russia's ongoing criminal war against its neighbor. In a stark and alarming discussion, he addressed the war's global implications and the power of untethered autocrats.

His latest book is How to Win an Information War: The Propagandist Who Outwitted Hitler (Public Affairs, 2024) and will be published in Ukrainian by Meridian Czernowitz.

Ukrainian Jewish Encounter Timeline wins international recognition while countering Russian propaganda

Ukrainians and Jews have lived as neighbours for centuries, creating and sharing enduring cultures that continue to inform their identities today. The Timeline demonstrates that Ukraine is home to diverse peoples and, for centuries, one of the world’s oldest and largest Jewish communities.

Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize  

The 'Encounter' prize aims to build on the common experiences of Ukrainians and Jews over the centuries, expressed in literature and nonfiction. The Prize will be awarded annually to the most influential work in literature and nonfiction (in alternate years) that fosters Ukrainian-Jewish understanding, helping solidify Ukraine's place as a multi-ethnic society and giving truth to the motto, "Our stories are incomplete without each other."
