Ukrainian Jewish Encounter Presents “Saved by Sheptytsky” – Stories from Three Survivors

UJE will show its acclaimed film “Saved by Sheptytsky” at this year’s Limmud Canada. In the film, three Holocaust survivors -- Dr. Leon Chameides of the United States, Lilly Polhman of the UK and Oded Amarant of Israel -- describe how they were saved by Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, during World War II. Because of the Metropolitan’s moral guidance, these three Jewish children survived the Holocaust by being hidden in Christian monasteries with other orphaned youths.
