"Jaweіn mezulah": Chronicle of Nathan Hanover

Nathan Hanover's work is one of the most famous Jewish chronicles dedicated to the events of 1648–1649 in Ukraine. The story about the destruction of Jewish communities combined with personal memories and impressions of the author, supplemented by the testimonies of eyewitnesses. Hanover, in the tradition of Jewish evangelical literature, explains the tragedy of the Jews by disobeying the commandments and "torments that announce the coming of the Messiah," but he is also aware of the social reasons for the peasant uprisings and riots at that time.
