UJE celebrates Israel’s 70th birthday

The Ukrainian Jewish Encounter attended a lively event celebrating Israel’s 70th birthday on 25 April 2018. Over 400 guests attended the gathering, including Elaev Belotserkovsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Ukraine; Yuliya Goldenberg, Head of the All-Ukrainian Charitable Foundation "For You"; Haim Kapelnykov, ex-chairman of the "Sokhnut" Jewish Agency in Ukraine and Moldova; Vitaliy Pornikov, writer and journalist, as well as many other well-known personalities.

The event took place in a central Kyiv restaurant and was supported by the UJE.

Several guests were asked "What would you like to wish Israel on its 70th anniversary?" and "How do you see in the future of Ukrainian-Jewish relations?."

Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize  

The 'Encounter' prize aims to build on the common experiences of Ukrainians and Jews over the centuries, expressed in literature and nonfiction. The Prize will be awarded annually to the most influential work in literature and nonfiction (in alternate years) that fosters Ukrainian-Jewish understanding, helping solidify Ukraine's place as a multi-ethnic society and giving truth to the motto, "Our stories are incomplete without each other."
