‘Tablet’: Aharon Appelfeld, a Memory
The Ukrainian Jewish Encounter supported the Ukrainian-language translation and publication of two books by the great Israeli writer Aharon Appelfeld Kateryna and Blooms of Darkness. Both books were translated by his long-time translator Victor Radutsky and published by Ukraine’s Books-XXI publishing house (Chernivtsi) in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
Born in Bukovyna, Appelfeld died in Israel on 4 January 2018. A year after his death Tablet magazine ran an article by Natalia A. Feduschak, UJE’s communications director, in the author’s remembrance. As the third anniversary of Appelfeld’s death approaches in 2021, we share this article with our readers, which is available here.
