Ukrainian Holocaust survivor: Russia is waging 'war of extermination'

Ukrainian Holocaust survivor Roman Schwarzman has implored Germany to increase support for Ukraine in the fight against Russia's "war of extermination." Addressing the Bundestag this week as part of events to mark 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz, Schwarzman accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of attempting to "destroy" Ukraine as a nation. "Back then, Hitler wanted to kill me because I am Jewish. Now Putin wants to kill me because I am Ukrainian."

Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize

The 'Encounter' prize aims to build on the common experiences of Ukrainians and Jews over the centuries, expressed in literature and nonfiction. The Prize will be awarded annually to the most influential work in literature and nonfiction (in alternate years) that fosters Ukrainian-Jewish understanding, helping solidify Ukraine's place as a multi-ethnic society and giving truth to the motto, "Our stories are incomplete without each other."
