Event description
Join us for the announcement of the winners of the 2026 Encounter: The Ukrainian-Jewish Literary Prize, which celebrates outstanding contributions to Ukrainian nonfiction literature (historical works, biographies, memoirs, journalism, essays) dedicated to the past and future of Ukrainian-Jewish relations. During the event, a presentation of the five shortlisted books will take place, with the participation of authors and publishers who will share their thoughts on interethnic interaction and the modernity of intercultural relations.

This year, the jury had to choose between an intellectual biography, the Jewish architectural heritage of Lviv, a story about Jewish photographers of the city of yesteryear, a biography of the city of Dnipro and the memoir of a family caught between Hitler and Stalin. The conversation will also be attended by jury members Ola Hnatiuk, professor of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, professor emeritus of the University of Warsaw, essayist, translator, public figure, member of the Ukrainian and Polish PENs (Warsaw); Serhiy Hirik, Vice-President of the Ukrainian Association of Jewish Studies, employee of the State Research Institution "Encyclopedia Press" (Kyiv); and Vladyslava Moskalets, a historian, a researcher at the Center for Urban History in Lviv, an associate professor in the Department of History and the head of Jewish Studies at the Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv).

Event description
A conversation about the trilogy of Austrian writer, journalist of the newspaper Frankfurter Zeitung, music critic Soma Morgenstern (1890–1976) Sparks in the Abyss (written in 1930–1945, published after the war). The Ukrainian-born writer left wonderful memories of his childhood and youth in the Ternopil region, the translation of which was shortlisted for Encounter prize in 2021. The Ukrainian translation of the three-volume book The Testament of the Prodigal Son, The Idyll in Exile, The Son of the Prodigal Son, published by "Books 21" (Chernivtsi), is presented by an outstanding translator-Germanist, tireless popularizer of Bukovynian authors, Professor Petro Rykhlo. Event description:
We invite you to a conversation about the celebration of the year of Nobel laureate Shmuel Yosef Agnon in Ukraine. The presentation will focus on the translation of Agnon's texts into Ukrainian, as well as essays written during a literary residency, which has taken place since 2016 in Buchach, the city where Agnon was born and wrote about.
